Trent Alexander-Arnold's The After Academy

The After Academy

The After Academy, launched in 2023 by Trent Alexander-Arnold, offers a new career path for those who have pursued professional football without securing a career within the sport.

Background

In the competitive world of football, the journey to becoming a professional is loaded with challenges and uncertainties. The reality is that the majority of young players entering academies at the age of nine, will not fulfil a career in professional football. For many, the dream may end abruptly, and young athletes can face isolation, uncertainty, and mental health challenges upon being released.

The After Academy seeks to bridge the development gap for young players exiting academies, providing them with support and guidance as they transition to alternative professional careers.

Understanding The Challenges

Transitioning from academy life to a new career can be a complex journey. Despite the dedication to their sport, many young athletes find themselves navigating uncertainties related to their future careers and personal identity outside of football. The After Academy recognises the need for a structured programme that supports these individuals through their transition, mitigating feelings of isolation and uncertainty while highlighting the positive aspects and opportunities that their football academy experiences have provided.

Our Mission

The After Academy is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment within the football community. Our mission extends beyond offering an alternative career pathway, we aim to empower former academy players with the necessary tools, knowledge, and support to succeed in diverse professional fields.
